Unprecedented and disruptive challenges and complexities face higher education leaders every day.  For example, leaders worry about their institutions’ preparedness to address inequitable levels of success among students of color and the increasing, complex needs and dynamics of students with low socio-economic status.  Whether such conditions are the results of the changing demographics of our communities, increasing competition, declining enrollments, conflicting demands, or decreasing resources, successful college leaders must provide strategic, yet equity-centered solutions to complex issues and situations.  This workshop is intended to prepare diverse leaders for senior-level positions in higher education and to develop strategies that will help them address organizational challenges and succeed in their leadership journeys.

This session will briefly explore the current state of data breaches in higher education and the threats facing campuses today, review the information security incident response process and highlight the parts of the response process that college leaders must know, and discuss data protection strategies. The purpose of the session is not to scare, but to inform participants and help them to think strategically about the information security and data privacy issues facing community colleges today.
